The game was tied at 11 with less than five minutes left in the fourth quarter when the Tar Heels went two men up due to coinciding penalties on the Bears. Former Calvert Hall (Md.) teammates Jacob Kelly and Cole Herbert connected for two goals in a span of 35 seconds and then Kelly iced it with 52 seconds remaining.

North Carolina proved strong up the middle, as goalie Collin Krieg made 17 saves and faceoff specialist Zac Tucci went 18-for-24.

The Tar Heels (3-1), ranked No. 13 in the Nike/USA Lacrosse Division I Men’s Top 20, are in the middle of a seven-game homestand to start the season. They’ll host No. 9 Johns Hopkins on Sunday.
